Stephen Hawkings' Science of the Future

21th June 2014

On the 4th of April a film crew of the BBC filmed an episode for a Brave New World with Stephen Hawking on the Scannexus scannerlab. In this episode they wanted to inform people about the newest technics of functional MRI. Especially the kind of functional MRI performed by Bettina Sorger had their attention. With her experiment she tries to find out what the subject is thinking. So in future it might be possible to communicate with people who have locked in Syndrome. The interview was done by Jim Al-Khalili. He underwent this MRI experiment himself and was amazed of the results coming out. Bettina asked him when he was lying in the scanner, where he went on a holiday recently. Jim was thinking of the word and Bettina found out with this functional MRI experiment that he had been to Hawaii.
